Today's travel blog is taking us to Ancient Rome. This was the last stop on our Interrail trip for 2016 and we had three days in this gorgeous city.
Rome is a place you could spend a lifetime in and not see everything so while we had three days I feel I could literally for 10 more and not get bored! It was one of my favourite cities as there is so much culture and history in Rome. This blog will go through what we managed to fit in while there.
The Colosseum & Palatine Hill
If you don't visit the Colosseum have you really been to Rome? It is a must do and I highly recommend getting the skip the queue tickets! You pay an extra few euros for these but they are so worth it as during the summer wait times could be up to 3 hours and when it's 30 degrees you really don't want to be standing in a queue.
You prepay for the skip the queue tickets and they include entry to Palatine hill. I will leave a link below for the tickets we got. :) The Colosseum itself is really impressive, a definite must see!
Palatine Hill was something we hadn't planned on doing but when it was included we headed on our merry way. It is amazing! Once at the top you get a panoramic view of Ancient Rome and you can walk through the ruins and literally spend hours here! I highly recommend it!
The Vatican Museums
Another must do is Vatican City! Again we purchased some skip the queue tickets into the Vatican Museums and again it was great to walk past crowds of people in the sweltering heat! You must cover up for the museums so no shorts/crop tops... We wore t shirts and leggings and they were fine.
The Vatican Museums are HUGE and you could easily spend an entire day going through them. They are quiet crowded so we went through the quickly enough and eventually got the the Sistine Chapel. There is only one word to describe this chapel.... WOW! I love art and Michelanglo deserves some serious credit for this stunning work of art. You could spend 3 hours in this small chapel and would still be finding new paintings and art pieces on the ceiling! It is truly amazing! You are not allowed to take any pictures once in there and have to remain silent.
Other Things to do...
Hope you enjoyed reading this. If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I'll get back to you!
Here's the link of the tickets we got here.
Until next time,
