My friends and I recently went on a day trip to Dublin and while there we decided to get a bit 'cultured' and went to visit the Jameson Distillery in Smithfield.
I would be lying if I say this was a planned trip to the Distillery as we had intended on going to Kilmainham Gaol (which was sold out when we got there) however our plans changed and we didn't want to make our entire journey wasted. We first got the Bus Top Tour around the city, finally getting off in Smithfield.
The ticket into the Distillery cost €20 and this included a complimentary drink and whiskey tasting. We started the tour going through the history of Jameson. I have to say, I was very impressed with the digital effects of the newly renovated distillery.
We entered a room where the guide explained how Jameson is made and went through the process of tasting and sniffing and smelling different aspects that give Jameson it's distinct texture and flavour.
The finally stage of the tour is probably everyone's favourite - the whiskey tasting! We got to sample Jameson, Scotch and Bourbon and it was incredible how different each one was. Jameson had a distinct smoothness the others lacked and it was the nicest whiskey I tasted! (Not biased, just true!)
My one fault was the tour was very short. I would've liked to have spent a bit more time learning about the whole process but it was without doubt very enjoyable.
I got a Jameson, Ginger & Lime as my free drink and not being much of a whiskey drinker actually really enjoyed it. I would recommend a visit but be warned the time goes very quickly and you will be left wanting a small bit more. Or at least that was my case!
Hope you enjoyed reading this post. Have you been to the Distillery? Let me know what you thought!
Until next time,
