Isn't it such an effort being a girl. We have to have the makeup, the hair, the nails, the tan, the outfit and so on when it comes to any 'big event' let it be a wedding, graduation or party. The morning of the event you are in such a rush to get ready before a certain time you stress and often go hungry. Well... not me! :) The key to having a worry free day is to plan ahead, and by ahead I mean the week before your big event.
I have the Marissa Carter Masterclass tomorrow and I have to leave my house at 7:30am so I don't have time to be rushing and racing to get things done. Here's how I saved myself time.
Plan what to wear
Before any event, even a night out on the town I always have a rough idea of what I'm going to wear. That way I can plan everything else. Whether I need to wear tan, what way my makeup is going to be and does my hair need to be up or down. The key is to base everything around you outfit of choice. That way you are less likely to change you mind last minute.
My outfit is this gorgeous swing style dress and I absolutely love it! I picked it up in Pamela Scott and it's available in sizes 8-16
My shoes are from Penny's (Primark) and are classic pointed black heels.
Time to Tan
When I do decide to be sun-kissed I always prep my skin one/two days before. This leaves room for error, if my tan doesn't turn out perfect I have time to fix it.
I love the COCOA BROWN range and as the event is Marissa's Masterclass it seems only fitting that I use her brand.
I hop in the shower and exfoliate my body using the TOUGH STUFF body scrub. There are little micro beads that exfoliate the skin to leave it prepped and ready for the next step.
After getting out of the shower I like to use the CHOCOLATE WHIP moisturiser. This further preps the skin ensuring it is silky smooth for an even application. I like to let that sit and soak into my skin for about 10 minutes.
Finally, it's time to tan. Using the 1 HOUR TAN and a tanning mit I start applying the product to all the places I want to be tanned using small amounts and ensuring to spread it evenly by looking in a mirror. I let that dry completely before getting dressed and I ususally wear loose clothing so as there is no streaks created and it does not transfer.
Skincare is Key
You should have a skincare routine in general (What you do in your 20's, you show in your 40's) but in the weeks and days before the event make sure you are hydrated and moisturised daily. Also if you can, try to cleanse and tone when removing makeup. This will have the skin in it's best condition and makeup will look flawless.
Onto the Hair
Like the outfit, you want to have an idea of how you want your hair the day of the event. If you are doing it yourself it's no harm to practice the style a few times to ensure you get it just right! Because I don't have much time the morning of the event I'm doing my hair the night before. I've decided to curl it using a Curling Wand and loads of hairspray! That way I can tie it in a lose ponytail going to bed and have bouncy waves in the morning.
Finally, the Makeup
A big event is not time to be experimenting with new products. Stick with what you know works for you and your skin and in particular choose a foundation that will last you all day. I'm keeping my makeup simple with dewy skin being the focus. If you an unsure, a palette like the Naked Palette from Urban Decay is great as you can do very natural or very dramatic makeup. The main thing is to ensure you are using products that are long lasting and work for you.
Get dressed, Go forth, And ENJOY!
